Group Nominated for Artist of the Year After Five-Year AMA Absence
Can group BTS once again clinch the top prize at a major U.S. music awards ceremony?
BTS will attend the ‘American Music Awards (American Music Awards, hereinafter AMA)’ held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in the U.S. at 5 p.m., local time, on the 25th. This will mark BTS’s first attendance at the AMA in five years since 2021.
BTS has been nominated for the ‘Artist of the Year’ category, considered the top prize at the AMA, and will compete against nine global pop stars including Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga. Additionally, the title track ‘Swim’ from their fifth studio album ‘Arirang’ has been nominated for the ‘Song of the Summer’ category, and they have also been nominated for ‘Best Male K-Pop Artist.’ This has sparked interest in whether BTS can once again achieve the honor of winning an award.
BTS’s connection with the AMA runs deep. Starting with their win in the ‘Favorite Social Artist’ category in 2018, BTS successfully won the same category for three consecutive years until 2020. In 2019, they won the ‘Tour of the Year’ and ‘Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock’ categories, and in 2022, they won the ‘Pop Duo/Group’ category. Notably, in 2021, they further solidified their position as a mainstay in the U.S. mainstream by winning the ‘Favorite Duo/Group,’ ‘Favorite Pop Song’ categories, and even the ‘Artist of the Year’ trophy. Additionally, they have won a total of 12 trophies as a group and individually, including awards in the ‘Favorite K-Pop Artist’ category in 2022 and 2025.
BTS will hold their world tour ‘Arirang’ at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, U.S., over four days: the 23rd and 24th, and the 27th and 28th.
The AMA is a prestigious event, regarded as one of the three major award ceremonies in U.S. popular music, alongside the Grammy Awards and the Billboard Music Awards.
