Singer-Actor Apologizes for Controversy, Takes Full Responsibility
Singer-actor Cha Eun-woo, who faced controversy after being imposed a tax evasion surcharge of over 20 billion Korean won, has announced that he has paid all related taxes.
Cha Eun-woo posted a lengthy message on his SNS on the 8th, stating, “I sincerely apologize to fans and many others for the disappointment and confusion caused by the recent tax controversy.”
He first apologized, saying, “During the process of various administrative procedures, I had to be cautious in expressing my position, and I would like to apologize once again for the delay in speaking out. Although it’s late, I want to directly share my thoughts and position now.”
Regarding the tax evasion controversy, Cha Eun-woo stated, “I respect the procedures and results of the National Tax Service, and to prevent further confusion, I have paid all related taxes. I will also faithfully engage in the remaining procedures.”
He added, “As someone who has worked under the love and support of many people, I take this matter very seriously. If there were parts I failed to review thoroughly, the responsibility lies entirely with me. I will not avoid blame by saying, ‘I didn’t know’ or ‘it was someone else’s decision.’”
Regarding the establishment of a corporation, he explained, “During a period of change and confusion in my activities, I established a corporation to stabilize my career. Looking back, there were parts I didn’t review thoroughly, and the responsibility lies with me, not my family or company.”
Finally, he said, “This incident made me realize I need to reflect on myself. Above all, I am deeply sorry for disappointing fans and AROHA who believed in me. To prevent recurrence, I will review all future activities with stricter standards. I will strive to be a Cha Eun-woo who takes full responsibility for my choices and actions.”
Meanwhile, Cha Eun-woo was investigated by the Seoul Regional National Tax Service Investigation Bureau 4 for tax evasion in July last year before enlistment and was notified of a surcharge exceeding 20 billion won—the largest ever imposed on a celebrity. His side requested a pre-assessment review, disagreeing with the National Tax Service’s decision.
