A legal dispute has erupted between Dua Lipa and Samsung Electronics after the global pop star reportedly filed a lawsuit seeking approximately $15 million in damages over the alleged unauthorized use of her image.
According to reports, Dua Lipa’s team recently filed the lawsuit against Samsung Electronics’ U.S. subsidiary as well as the company’s Korean headquarters in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

The core issue centers around promotional packaging.
Dua Lipa’s side claims that Samsung commercially used her image and likeness on television packaging boxes beginning last year without obtaining proper permission. The lawsuit reportedly argues that her photo was utilized for marketing and commercial purposes despite no authorized agreement being in place.
As a result, the singer is now seeking roughly $15 million in compensation.

However, Samsung Electronics strongly denied the accusations and insisted that the company followed proper procedures before using the image.
In an official statement released on May 12, Samsung stated:
“The claim that we used the artist’s image without permission is not true.”
The company explained that it had verified usage rights through a third-party content provider partner before the packaging was produced.
According to Samsung, the partner confirmed that the image could legally be used on TV boxes, and the company proceeded based on that assurance.

Samsung also revealed that after Dua Lipa’s representatives raised concerns in July of last year, the company immediately began halting production of the packaging and replacing existing boxes.
The statement suggests Samsung may be attempting to frame the situation as a licensing or verification misunderstanding rather than intentional misuse.
The company additionally emphasized that discussions with Dua Lipa’s side have continued for months behind the scenes.
“We will do our best to reach an amicable resolution,” Samsung said.

The lawsuit is already drawing significant attention online because it involves one of the world’s biggest pop stars facing off against one of South Korea’s most powerful corporations.
Many observers are now closely watching whether the dispute will escalate into a prolonged legal battle or quietly settle through negotiations.
The case also highlights the increasingly complicated nature of commercial image licensing in global advertising and product marketing, especially when third-party content providers are involved.
Even if a company believes it legally acquired rights through a partner agency, disputes can still arise if there are disagreements over the scope or legitimacy of those permissions.
At the moment, neither side has released additional detailed evidence publicly regarding the specific image agreements involved in the case.
For now, both Dua Lipa and Samsung Electronics appear to be maintaining their positions while continuing negotiations behind the scenes.
