A recent interaction between V of BTS and a fan on Weverse has sparked widespread discussion online about body comments directed toward idols and where fans should draw the line during public interactions.

The controversy did not begin because of V’s response, which many fans described as calm and playful, but rather because of the fan’s original comment about his body and appearance.
During a recent exchange on Weverse, a fan commented on V’s physique, saying that he looked “better” when he was more muscular and asking whether he had lost weight again.
The fan wrote:
“Taehyung, did you lose weight again? You looked so good when you were more muscular!”
V responded casually, replying:
“I can always get back to it! Want me to send you a photo from when I was 80kg?”
While the idol appeared unbothered and handled the interaction lightly, the exchange quickly became a major topic among BTS fans online. Many ARMYs criticized the fan’s comment, arguing that publicly discussing someone’s weight or body changes in that way was inappropriate, regardless of intention.
The discussion became even more sensitive because V has previously spoken openly about his physical transformation following his military service. During enlistment, the singer reportedly gained significant muscle mass and reached approximately 86 kilograms through intense training and exercise.
Fans frequently praised his visibly bulked-up appearance during that period, especially after V shared gym photos and updates while serving. However, after completing his military duties, the idol also revealed that he intentionally lost a noticeable amount of weight while preparing for BTS’s comeback performances and stage activities.

Because of this context, many supporters pointed out that V’s slimmer physique was not accidental or unhealthy, but rather part of a deliberate decision connected to performance preparation and artistic goals.
As screenshots of the Weverse exchange spread across X and other social media platforms, many fans expressed discomfort with how casually people comment on idols’ bodies online.
Some users argued that comments comparing one version of a celebrity’s body to another can unintentionally place pressure on idols, especially in industries already known for extreme scrutiny surrounding appearance and weight.
Others emphasized that even compliments can become uncomfortable if they focus too heavily on body size or imply that someone looked “better” at a different weight.

Several fans also praised V’s response, saying he handled the situation with humor and maturity instead of reacting negatively. However, they noted that his calm reply did not erase concerns about the broader issue of fans feeling entitled to publicly evaluate idols’ bodies.
The incident has since evolved into a larger conversation within the fandom about boundaries between fans and artists, particularly on platforms like Weverse where idols directly interact with supporters.
While opinions remain divided on whether the original comment was intentionally harmful, many fans agree that the situation highlights how sensitive discussions surrounding appearance, weight, and body image can become — especially for public figures constantly under public scrutiny.
