A growing controversy has sparked outrage among BTS fans after reports emerged that a new business is preparing to operate under the name “Magnate,” a brand long associated with the family of Jimin.

For years, BTS fans have recognized Magnate as the famous Busan café operated by Jimin’s father. The café became a popular destination for ARMYs visiting South Korea, with many international fans making special trips to Busan to see a place connected to the global superstar.
According to reports circulating online, the original café’s name was eventually changed to ZM-ILLENNIAL after another party reportedly secured trademark rights related to the “Magnate” name before the Park family did. While details of the trademark situation have been widely discussed among fans, official legal records and circumstances surrounding the ownership dispute have not been fully clarified publicly.

Recently, ZM-ILLENNIAL released a notice informing customers that a new store using the name “Magnate” would be opening near their location. The statement emphasized that the new business has no connection whatsoever to Jimin’s family and urged visitors not to confuse the two establishments.
The announcement immediately triggered a backlash across social media.
Many fans argue that the “Magnate” name has acquired significant recognition because of its connection to Jimin and the millions of BTS fans who have visited or promoted the café over the years. As a result, some ARMYs believe the new business is attempting to benefit from a reputation that was built through the café’s association with the BTS member and his family.
What further fueled criticism was the appearance of promotional materials and signage that some fans claim resemble the typography and branding style previously associated with the original Magnate café. Although the new business reportedly focuses on apparel rather than food and beverages, critics argue that the similarities could still create confusion among visitors, particularly international fans unfamiliar with the name change.
Online reactions have been intense, with many ARMYs describing the move as opportunistic and disrespectful. Others have encouraged fans to verify that they are visiting ZM-ILLENNIAL rather than assuming any business using the Magnate name is connected to Jimin’s family.
At this point, there is no public evidence suggesting that the new business has claimed any official affiliation with Jimin, BTS, or the Park family. Nevertheless, the controversy highlights how powerful celebrity-related branding can become and how disputes involving trademarks and business names can create strong emotional reactions among fan communities.
For many BTS supporters, the issue is less about legal ownership and more about protecting a place that has become part of BTS fan culture. Whether the controversy grows or fades will likely depend on how the new business presents itself and whether customers become confused about its relationship—or lack thereof—to Jimin’s family.
