A new debate has erupted within the BTS fandom after RM spoke candidly about Jungkook during a recent livestream following BTS’s Las Vegas concert.

During the live broadcast on Weverse, RM reflected on the emotional process behind BTS’s comeback album Arirang and the difficult period the group endured during and after military enlistment. According to RM, the members reunited after Jin completed his service, and many of them were struggling emotionally at the time.
RM specifically mentioned that Jungkook had been having a particularly difficult time and became emotional during conversations about the group’s future. He explained that the older members felt pressure to “hold the team together” as BTS prepared for their return.

While many fans viewed the story as heartfelt and honest, others immediately criticized RM for discussing Jungkook’s private emotional struggles publicly.
The backlash largely centers around previous comments Jungkook has made about wanting to keep aspects of his military experience private. Some fans argued that RM crossed a boundary by revealing personal details that Jungkook himself had never chosen to share publicly.
Critics online claimed that decisions about discussing trauma, mental health, or difficult military experiences should belong entirely to Jungkook. A number of posts accused RM of oversharing sensitive information, especially given how intensely fans analyze every detail involving BTS members.
I love you BTS
My jungkookie 😭🐨: Around the time when Jin was discharged, it was about one year before the rest of us were all discharged. Back then, everyone’s mental state wasn’t great. So when Jin was discharged—when I played the saxophone then—we gathered at Jimin’s… pic.twitter.com/vdEJuGeUXz

However, another large section of the fandom strongly defended RM and pushed back against the criticism.
Supporters argued that RM never revealed anything scandalous or exploitative. Instead, they viewed the story as an honest reflection of how difficult the enlistment era was for all seven members. Many fans interpreted his comments as proof of the group’s emotional closeness and the responsibility the members felt toward each other during a turbulent period.
Some also pointed out that RM was speaking broadly about the emotional reality of BTS’s reunion rather than exposing deeply personal secrets. To those fans, the moment reinforced BTS’s long-standing image as a group built on trust, vulnerability, and mutual support.

The debate also reflects a larger issue that frequently appears in K-pop fandom culture: where fans draw the line between emotional openness and privacy.
BTS members have historically shared extremely personal stories with fans, including discussions about burnout, anxiety, pressure, and loneliness. That openness has helped many fans feel deeply connected to the group over the years. But it has also created ongoing disagreements whenever one member discusses another member’s experiences publicly.
For some fans, RM’s comments felt natural because BTS has always presented themselves as a team whose struggles are interconnected. Others believe individual members should maintain complete control over how their personal hardships are discussed, even within the group itself.
The timing also intensified reactions because BTS’s post-military comeback period has already been under enormous scrutiny. Every livestream, interview, and behind-the-scenes story connected to Arirang is being dissected heavily by fans eager to understand how the group changed during enlistment.

Ultimately, the controversy became less about the specific story itself and more about fandom expectations surrounding privacy, emotional transparency, and parasocial boundaries.
And as often happens within BTS fandom spaces, the discourse quickly split into two completely different narratives:
One side saw RM’s comments as a touching example of brotherhood and honesty.
The other saw them as a moment Jungkook should have had the right to share — or not share — on his own terms.
