BTS member Jungkook is going viral again — this time for hilariously “fleeing” from his longtime nemesis during the group’s recent appearance at Mexico’s National Palace: microphone stands.
While BTS is currently in Mexico City for their massive BTS WORLD TOUR ARIRANG concerts, the group received an extraordinary welcome after appearing at the historic National Palace alongside Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
According to local reports and fan accounts, more than 50,000 fans gathered around the palace and the nearby Zócalo within only a few hours to catch a glimpse of the group.
As the members stepped onto the palace balcony to greet fans, wave flags, and interact with the crowd, fans quickly noticed one particularly funny moment involving Jungkook.
The singer appeared perfectly comfortable greeting ARMYs — until a microphone stand suddenly appeared nearby.
The moment Jungkook spotted it, fans noticed him quietly sliding away toward the opposite side of the balcony, seemingly trying to avoid being selected to speak publicly. He eventually moved closer to RM, who is famously known as the group’s main spokesperson during official events.
When staff later carried a microphone stand directly toward RM, Jungkook reportedly stayed safely near the corner of the balcony behind Suga and Jimin, making fans burst into laughter online.
ARMYs immediately turned the moment into memes, joking that Jungkook treated the microphone stand like a “final boss” and was desperately trying not to get dragged into giving a speech.
Some fans even joked that Jungkook looked fully prepared to “sacrifice Suga” if RM suddenly decided another member needed to speak to the crowd.
The clip quickly spread across social media, with many fans finding the moment especially funny because Jungkook has developed a long-running reputation for becoming adorably shy during formal public speaking situations despite being one of the biggest performers in the world on stage.
Fans pointed out the contrast between Jungkook confidently performing in front of stadium crowds of tens of thousands and then immediately retreating the second a microphone stand appears for a speech.
Meanwhile, BTS continues its successful run in Mexico as part of the BTS WORLD TOUR ARIRANG. The group is scheduled to hold three sold-out concerts at Estadio GNP Seguros before continuing the tour in the United States.
