Margo’s Got Money Troubles is surprising viewers by revealing that almost all of the wrestling and dangerous scenes in the show were performed by Nick Offerman and Elle Fanning themselves. Despite the series having many intense and potentially dangerous fight scenes, the production team only used a stunt double once in the entire first season. This has made fans extremely curious about the rare scene dangerous enough to require a stunt double. And according to Offerman’s revelation, that scene is this one.

One surprising behind-the-scenes revelation from Margo’s Got Money Troubles has made the show’s already viral bathtub sequence even more impressive to fans.

According to Nick Offerman, the production used a stunt double for only a single shot during the entire scene.

That means nearly everything audiences saw onscreen — the underwater struggle, the panic, the physical restraint, the emotional breakdown, and the CPR aftermath — was performed directly by Offerman and Elle Fanning themselves.

The reveal shocked many viewers because the sequence is physically brutal.

Elle reportedly had to repeatedly perform scenes involving:

  • being held underwater,
  • struggling in panic,
  • crying hysterically,
  • gasping for air,
  • and sustaining emotional intensity through multiple soaked, exhausting takes.

Combined with the plexiglass underwater filming setup and constant set resets, fans began realizing just how demanding the shoot actually was.

Online reactions quickly shifted from simply praising the scene’s cinematography to praising Elle Fanning’s performance specifically.

Many viewers now describe the sequence as the emotional peak of the season.

Some fans even started calling it:
“the best acted scene of the entire show.”

Part of what resonated so strongly was how physically real the performance felt. The panic never came across as theatrical or exaggerated. Instead, audiences described it as deeply uncomfortable and frighteningly believable.

That realism became even more impressive once viewers learned there was almost no stunt replacement involved.

For many fans, the scene completely changed how they viewed Elle Fanning as an actress.

Although she has long been respected for emotional performances, viewers now argue that Margo’s Got Money Troubles pushed her into a far more raw and physically demanding territory than audiences usually associate with her career.

And because the actors performed nearly everything themselves, the emotional chemistry — and terror — of the scene landed with much greater intensity onscreen.

Ironically, the fact that only one shot required a stunt double may be exactly why the sequence feels so immersive.

Nothing about it feels “safe” or distant.

It feels immediate, exhausting, and terrifyingly human — which is exactly why the fandom cannot stop talking about it.
