BTS created a historic moment in Mexico after being officially invited by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to visit the National Palace and greet fans gathered at the iconic Zócalo ahead of their highly anticipated concerts.
According to local reports, all seven members — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — appeared together on the presidential balcony on May 6 local time, where they waved, smiled, and interacted directly with an enormous crowd of fans.
What made the event even more shocking was the scale of the turnout. Reports estimate that more than 50,000 fans gathered around the square and surrounding streets just to catch a glimpse of the group. The atmosphere quickly turned electric as fans erupted into screams the moment BTS stepped onto the balcony.
Dressed in elegant suits with different styles reflecting each member’s personality, the group looked visibly moved by the massive welcome. Some members leaned over the balcony railing to make eye contact with fans, while others formed heart signs with their hands and applauded the crowd in appreciation.
J-Hope particularly drew attention after spreading his arms wide and hyping up the audience like he was already on stage at a concert. Meanwhile, V and RM calmly waved with bright smiles, while Jin and Jungkook leaned forward toward the crowd to respond to fans’ deafening cheers.
The members also spoke briefly in Spanish through microphones, saying phrases such as “Te amo,” “Mexico es el mejor,” and “Nos vemos pronto,” sending the crowd into another frenzy.
President Claudia Sheinbaum praised the group during the meeting, saying BTS’s music consistently delivers messages of “friendship, peace, and love.” She previously described the group’s return to Mexico as a “historic moment” for the country’s youth after the concerts were announced earlier this year.
The visit comes as part of the group’s massively successful BTS WORLD TOUR ARIRANG. BTS is scheduled to perform three sold-out concerts at Estadio GNP Seguros on May 7, 9, and 10. The stadium holds over 65,000 people, making it one of the largest and most prestigious concert venues in Latin America.
Mexico has become one of the biggest global hubs for K-pop consumption, and BTS’s dominance in the country is almost unmatched. According to Spotify data, Mexico ranked as the fifth-largest K-pop streaming market worldwide last year, with BTS standing as the most-streamed K-pop artist in the country.
Their album Map of the Soul: 7 remains the most-streamed K-pop album in Mexico, while Dynamite holds the record as the most-streamed K-pop song in the country since the global K-pop boom began.
Local media outlets also reported that Mexico City is officially the city that streams BTS’s music the most on Spotify worldwide.
