BTS member SUGA is gaining attention after reportedly placing within the top 5% of runners at a major marathon event during the group’s North American tour.
According to reports from the San Francisco Chronicle, SUGA participated in the famous Bay to Breakers race on May 17 in San Francisco, joining thousands of runners in the annual event.
The BTS star completed the 12-kilometer course in 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 43 seconds.
Race statistics provided by Laurel Intelligence reportedly showed that SUGA maintained an average pace of 8 minutes and 41 seconds per mile throughout the race.
Out of 20,530 total participants, he finished in 1,022nd place — an impressive result that placed him within the top 5% overall.
Fans were especially surprised by his performance because of how steady his pacing remained during the difficult course.
Reports noted that SUGA maintained consistency through the race’s challenging Hayes Hill section before actually accelerating afterward to improve his overall time.

Laurel Intelligence reportedly observed that his pace later returned to the low 8-minute-20-second range per mile after clearing the steep hill segment.
His participation quickly became a viral topic online after photos and videos from the event spread across social media and fan communities.
Many fans were even more shocked because the marathon reportedly took place just before BTS’s second sold-out concert at Stanford Stadium later that same day as part of the group’s ongoing BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’.
The achievement sparked praise from fans who joked that SUGA somehow managed to complete a marathon and still perform in a stadium concert only hours later.

The Bay to Breakers race itself is one of San Francisco’s most iconic sporting events.
Originally launched in 1912 following the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake, the event was designed to help raise morale among residents after the disaster.
Over the years, it has become famous for its festive atmosphere, colorful costumes, and free-spirited participants.
Meanwhile, BTS officially returned as a full group earlier this year following military service-related hiatuses.

The group launched their North American tour last month and are currently scheduled to perform 31 shows across 12 cities.
BTS will later return to Busan on June 12 and 13 for concerts at Busan Asiad Main Stadium, which are already expected to become one of the biggest K-Pop events of 2026.
SUGA’s marathon performance has now added another unexpected viral moment to the tour, with many fans calling the idol’s stamina “absolutely unreal.”
