“THE HEALTHIEST SHERIDANVERSE BACKSTORY EVER.” — that’s how the fandom is talking about Juan Pablo Raba after his latest interview regarding his role as Joaquin Reyes in Dutton Ranch. The actor revealed that he took on the role not for fame, money, or career advancement, but to fulfill a special promise to someone — the most important person in his life. Juan Pablo Raba missed an important occasion with that person, so he promised to give this role as a gift. Even more special, the name Joaquin Reyes in the film was inspired by this very special person.

Juan Pablo Raba has just revealed one of the most emotional behind-the-scenes stories connected to Dutton Ranch — and fans are already calling it “the healthiest Sheridanverse backstory ever.”

Juan Pablo Raba Shares Sweet Story About His Son (Exclusive)

During a recent interview, the actor shared that accepting the role of Joaquin was never just about career ambition or joining the massive Yellowstone universe. Instead, the role became deeply personal because of a promise he made to his son.

And the detail making the internet emotional?

His son is also named Joaquin.

According to Raba, he received the callback audition for Dutton Ranch while in Europe and had to immediately fly to Texas — meaning he would miss his son’s birthday in the process.

Before leaving, he made a promise:

“Joaquin, I’m going to go to Texas. I’m going to get this role, and it will be dedicated to you.”

That quote alone immediately exploded across social media.

Because in a franchise filled with murder, betrayal, ranch wars, trauma, and emotional destruction, fans were not prepared for one of the sweetest stories in the entire Sheridanverse to suddenly come from the actor playing one of the show’s morally gray newcomers.

Even more touching to viewers was how Raba described his son’s reaction after he landed the role. Instead of being upset about the missed birthday, his son reportedly told him:

“That’s very cool. I’m very proud of you.”

Internet reactions have been overwhelmingly emotional, with many fans joking that Joaquin might already be “more emotionally stable than the entire Dutton family combined.”

Others pointed out how fitting it is that Raba’s character in the series is also named Joaquin, making the role feel even more symbolic.

The story also adds another layer to why fans have become so attached to Joaquin on the show itself.

After Episode 3, Joaquin has quickly become one of the most discussed characters in the fandom, especially after viewers started comparing him to Jamie Dutton.

Many fans believe Joaquin is essentially the “Texas version of Jamie” because he shares several similarities:

adopted son energy,
intelligent fixer personality,
emotionally trapped inside a toxic power structure,
and constantly trying to survive around dangerous people.

That has already led to massive theories that Joaquin is ultimately doomed — especially because longtime Yellowstone viewers know Beth rarely reacts kindly to anyone who reminds her of Jamie.

Ironically, though, behind the scenes, the actor himself sounds nothing like the chaos of the Sheridanverse.

Raba also revealed several lighter stories from filming, including how disappointed he was that he never got to attend cowboy camp. According to him, he had been excited to train like the ranch cast before production realized his character did not actually need those skills.

Instead of riding horses and learning cowboy techniques, he joked that most of his time on set involved drinking Mexican Coke and driving a luxury Range Rover around Texas.

Fans also loved another small detail from the interview: Raba admitted he is personally obsessed with Landman, calling the Texas oil-world drama “fascinating.”

Naturally, that instantly triggered crossover theories online.

At this point, the Sheridanverse fandom is basically convinced every Taylor Sheridan character will eventually interact somehow.

Still, the biggest takeaway from the interview was not crossover speculation or behind-the-scenes trivia.

It was the fact that one of the darkest shows in the Yellowstone universe somehow produced one of the franchise’s most unexpectedly wholesome stories — all because a father promised his son he would dedicate the role to him.
