Kim Min-jeong, better known as Winter, has become the latest K-pop idol to face intense scrutiny over her appearance after an unedited airport photo shared by Korean media outlet Dispatch sparked a wave of negative comments online.

The controversy began on June 26, when aespa departed from Gimpo Airport for Japan to attend the TV Tokyo Music Festival 2026 Summer. Unlike many of their highly styled airport appearances, the members opted for comfortable travel outfits, giving fans a more casual glimpse of the group before their flight.

As is common with major idol departures, numerous media outlets were waiting at the airport, including Dispatch, which photographed each member and uploaded the images to its social media accounts.
However, fans soon noticed that one of Winter’s individual photos had quietly disappeared from Dispatch’s Instagram page.
While group photos and pictures of the other three members remained online, Winter’s individual image was removed. The same photo, however, continued to appear on Dispatch’s Facebook account, showing the singer wearing a baseball cap pulled low over her face as she walked through the airport.

The deletion immediately fueled speculation across social media.
Some users questioned why the image had been removed, with many assuming that either Winter’s fans or her agency, SM Entertainment, had requested its removal. No official explanation has been provided by either Dispatch or SM Entertainment.
Instead of calming the situation, the missing photo appeared to intensify online discussion.
According to screenshots circulating online, the original post attracted numerous negative comments criticizing Winter’s appearance. Some users described the image as unflattering, while others went much further, making personal attacks about her visuals.
Several comments also reignited long-running speculation surrounding cosmetic procedures, with some netizens making unverified claims about plastic surgery involving Winter and other aespa members.

The incident has once again highlighted the intense beauty standards that many K-pop idols face. Even casual airport photos—often taken without studio lighting, professional styling, or extensive editing—frequently become the subject of harsh online criticism.
Many fans quickly came to Winter’s defense, arguing that the singer simply appeared as anyone might while preparing for a flight. Supporters also criticized the growing tendency to overanalyze celebrities’ appearances based on a single candid photograph.
Others pointed out that deleting the image may have unintentionally drawn even more attention to the situation, allowing speculation to spread further across online communities.
Neither Winter nor SM Entertainment has commented on the controversy, and Dispatch has not publicly explained why the Instagram post was removed.
The discussion nevertheless reflects a recurring issue within the K-pop industry, where idols are often judged not only on their performances but also on every candid image captured by photographers. As social media continues to amplify these moments, even an ordinary airport snapshot can quickly become the center of widespread online debate.
