Yang Jung Won, a former Pilates instructor turned broadcaster, has once again come under public scrutiny after undergoing an extensive police interrogation related to alleged franchise fraud. The case, which has been ongoing since 2024, resurfaced following new developments tied to a broader investigation involving her husband.

On February 29, Yang appeared at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, where she was questioned for nearly seven hours. Arriving earlier that morning, she briefly addressed reporters, stating, “I will make sure to clarify any unfair aspects.” However, after the lengthy interrogation concluded at approximately 7:17 p.m., she left the station without responding to further media inquiries, fueling speculation and public curiosity about the case.

The allegations against Yang Jung Won stem from complaints filed by franchise owners of a Pilates academy, who accused her of fraud and violating South Korea’s Franchise Business Act. According to the complainants, the case involves disputes over business practices tied to franchise operations. Despite the seriousness of these claims, the investigation initially appeared to favor Yang. In December 2024, Investigation Division 1 of the Gangnam Police decided not to forward the case to prosecutors, citing insufficient evidence to support criminal charges.

However, the matter did not end there. A separate complaint was later submitted to Investigation Division 2, which temporarily suspended the case in October of the same year due to an inability to locate Yang. The investigation was only resumed after authorities were able to confirm her whereabouts, leading to her recent summons for questioning.

The situation grew significantly more complex when the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office launched an investigation into stock manipulation allegations involving Yang’s husband, identified as Lee Mossi. During this separate probe, prosecutors reportedly uncovered suspicious links suggesting that Lee may have attempted to interfere with the earlier investigation into his wife.

According to reports, Lee is suspected of providing entertainment or favors to a police inspector—referred to as Inspector A—from Investigation Division 1, allegedly in an effort to influence the outcome of the case involving Yang Jung Won. These findings have raised serious concerns about potential corruption within law enforcement and have shifted the focus of the investigation beyond the original fraud allegations.

Lee Mossi has since been taken into custody as authorities continue to examine the stock manipulation charges and the alleged obstruction of justice. Meanwhile, several police officers connected to the case, including Inspector A, have either been suspended from duty or placed under internal investigation. These developments have intensified public attention, as the case now involves not only business-related accusations but also possible misconduct within the police force itself.

Despite the renewed scrutiny, Yang Jung Won’s legal position remains uncertain. While earlier findings suggested a lack of evidence to prosecute her, the emergence of new details linked to her husband’s case could potentially impact how authorities reassess the situation moving forward.
