After being brutally killed off by Taylor Sheridan in Mayor of Kingstown, actress Elizaveta Neretin appeared to have lost her connection with the acclaimed creator. However, after graduating from the prestigious Juilliard School, she took a simple but bold step that changed everything. With just one text message to Sheridan saying she was ready to work again, Neretin quickly found herself returning to his universe — this time as one of the newest additions to Lioness Season 3.
Neretin’s journey back into Sheridan’s world has become one of the most surprising casting stories behind the latest season of the Paramount+ spy thriller. After her character Vera was killed in Mayor of Kingstown, she believed that chapter of her career with Sheridan might have ended. But the filmmaker apparently saw potential in her talent, and years later, that brief message from the young actress opened the door to a major new opportunity.
Season 3 of Lioness introduces several new characters who expand the dangerous world surrounding CIA officer Joe McNamara, played by Zoe Saldaña. The new season, which premiered on Aug. 2, continues to follow Joe and her Quick Reaction Force team as they face increasingly complicated missions involving international threats, personal risks, and enemies operating behind the scenes.
Speaking about the challenges of returning to the series, Saldaña explained that Sheridan continues to surprise the cast with new obstacles and deeper character conflicts. Each season pushes the actors to explore the complicated realities of people who dedicate their lives to dangerous service, and Season 3 brings fresh faces who add new layers to the story.
Among the newcomers is Ian Bohen, a familiar face to fans of Sheridan’s television universe. After portraying ranch hand Ryan on Yellowstone for five years, Bohen returns to Sheridan’s world as Grady, a Delta Force operator and K9 handler. His character is described as a disciplined, by-the-book soldier with strong battlefield skills, bringing a new military presence to Joe’s team.
Bohen had previously expressed his interest in joining Lioness, praising Sheridan’s creative universe and saying he wanted to continue working with the filmmaker. His wish eventually became reality, and he later shared behind-the-scenes images with Saldaña and Laysla De Oliveira, who plays Cruz Manuelos, showing his excitement about joining the action-packed series.
The third season also welcomes Lev Gorn as Maxim Petrov, a Russian ambassador connected to the show’s international espionage storyline. Gorn, known for roles in shows such as The Americans, The Wire, Madam Secretary, and Jack Ryan, shared his excitement about joining Sheridan’s project and praised the quality of Sheridan’s writing when he announced his casting.

Meanwhile, Elizaveta Neretin steps into the role of Oleksandra Balakin, an international operative who faces intense challenges and encounters with Joe McNamara. Her return to Sheridan’s universe is especially meaningful because it shows how a single message after Juilliard graduation helped revive their professional relationship. Alongside Neretin, Jack Dimich joins the cast as Aleksi Yurimov, the head of Russia’s Special Services Department, who becomes a target captured by Joe and her team. Together, these new characters promise to bring more danger, conflict, and unexpected twists to Lioness Season 3.
