Since first landing on Netflix back in 2019, Virgin River has become one of the streaming giant’s biggest success stories, building a loyal fanbase across the globe and cementing itself as one of the platform’s longest-running original dramas. But with a series that has lasted this long, viewers have also had to face the inevitable heartbreak that comes with cast shakeups and beloved characters quietly disappearing from the screen.

Over the years, the hit romantic drama has managed to keep much of its original core cast intact. Familiar faces such as Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Colin Lawrence, Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, and Benjamin Hollingsworth have remained central to the story from the very beginning. Their continued presence has helped the show maintain the comforting and emotional atmosphere that fans have fallen in love with.

However, not every character has stayed in the small Northern California town forever. Supporting characters, recurring stars, and guest appearances have come and gone throughout the seasons, with some exits shocking fans more than others. The recently released seventh season introduced yet another major casting shift that could pave the way for even more dramatic departures in the already highly anticipated eighth season.

Among the biggest surprises was the news that Lauren Hammersley and Marco Grazzini would not be returning to the series. Their characters, Charmaine and Mike, have both played important roles in some of the show’s most emotional and complicated storylines, making their exits especially significant for longtime viewers.

At the same time, another former recurring cast member has revealed that she would happily return to the series if given the chance. Actress Stacey Farber, best known for her work on Degrassi: The Next Generation and The Spencer Sisters, recently opened up about the possibility of reprising her role as Tara Anderson in Virgin River.

Farber first appeared in the drama during season 3 as Tara, one of Lily’s daughters and a close connection to Hope’s storyline. Lily, played by Lynda Boyd, became one of the show’s most beloved supporting characters before her tragic death from pancreatic cancer devastated fans. Following Lily’s passing, Tara stepped up in an emotional storyline and took responsibility for raising her younger baby sister Chloe.

Although Tara appeared throughout seasons 3 to 5 and later returned briefly in season 6, she was never considered one of the show’s major leads. Her appearances were more occasional, fitting naturally into the wider emotional fabric of the series without dominating the spotlight.

Speaking recently with Us Weekly, Farber admitted that she has not been contacted about returning to Virgin River since her last appearance on the show. Despite that, she made it very clear that she would love the opportunity to come back if producers ever reached out again.

The actress explained that her involvement with the series has always been unpredictable, saying she has disappeared and reappeared over the years whenever the story called for Tara’s return. She also shared her admiration for the show’s continued success, praising the fact that Virgin River is still going strong after so many seasons.

Farber also pointed out that the series often films far ahead of schedule, making it difficult for even former cast members to know exactly where production currently stands. Because of that, she admitted she has no idea whether the writers already have plans in place for future seasons or whether Tara could eventually fit back into the story.

Fans of the show know that Virgin River has developed something of an “open door” approach when it comes to former recurring characters. Even after leaving town, characters frequently reappear for emotional reunions, short guest arcs, or dramatic surprises. That flexibility means Tara could realistically return at any point if the writers decide there is room for her story again.

Still, there are understandable reasons why Tara did not appear in season 7. The latest season was packed with major storylines involving Mel and Jack’s baby journey, the continuing mystery surrounding Charmaine, Lizzie’s struggle with postpartum anxiety, and Brie’s complicated romantic dilemma involving Mike and Brady. With so many emotional threads demanding attention, there simply was not much space left for Tara to re-enter the narrative in a meaningful way.

Farber’s latest comments also strongly suggest that Tara is unlikely to appear in season 8 either. Production on the next chapter of the Netflix drama has already started, and the season is expected to premiere sometime in 2027. Since the actress confirmed she has not been contacted, fans probably should not expect to see Tara anytime soon.

Even so, viewers are far from giving up hope. As long as Virgin River continues beyond season 8 — and many fans believe the hit drama could easily stretch into a ninth season or even further — there is always the possibility that Tara could make another emotional return to the picturesque town that changed her life forever.

And judging by Farber’s enthusiasm, she would clearly be more than ready to step back into Tara’s shoes the moment Netflix comes calling again.
