Prime Video and 5&2 Studios have officially announced the highly anticipated premiere of the sixth season of The Chosen, set for November 15. The season will have a unique hybrid release, combining both streaming and a theatrical finale. The first three episodes of the six-episode season will be available on launch day, with weekly episode releases following through December 6, exclusively on Prime Video. However, the season finale will not be included in the initial streaming rollout and will instead be released globally in theaters during the spring of 2027, in multiple languages.

Creator Dallas Jenkins shared with The Christian Post that the sixth season will focus on the final hours of Jesus’ life, portraying the events leading up to His crucifixion from the perspectives of His followers as well as His adversaries. Jenkins emphasized that Season 6 illustrates Jesus’ submission to God’s will, encapsulating the essence of His final decision: “Not my will, but yours.” He explained that despite the agony He faced, Jesus willingly chose to endure the crucifixion. Jenkins reflected, “Jesus, God incarnate, expressed that His own will might be to avoid the crucifixion, yet He willingly chose surrender. If He was willing to put Himself through that when He could have gotten out of it, then our problems are much smaller by comparison. I want to follow in His footsteps.”

The official synopsis of the season outlines a growing sense of tension as religious leaders, Roman authorities, and the disciples interpret the unfolding events in vastly different ways. While many are familiar with the general storyline surrounding the crucifixion, the series aims to provide deeper insight into the “why” of these events and explore the extraordinary occurrences of those final 24 hours. Jenkins and his team believed that this part of the story deserved not only a season of television but also a standalone theatrical event. They filmed and wrote the entire narrative with both of these formats in mind.

The ensemble cast includes Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, Shahar Isaac as Peter, Paras Patel as Matthew, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, and Noah James as Andrew. Additionally, the cast features George H. Xanthis, Abe Bueno-Jallad, Vanessa Benavente, Luke Dimyan, Richard Fancy, Paul Ben-Victor, and Andrew James Allen, among others. As the series moves closer to its final chapters, with plans for a seven-season arc, the cast has expressed how the journey has been both emotionally transformative and deeply meaningful.

Paras Patel, who portrays Matthew, reflected on the bittersweet nature of nearing the end of the story. He shared that his portrayal of Matthew has given him a profound understanding of Jesus’ humanity and mission. Patel expressed, “What really appeals to me about Jesus is the humanity the show portrays, His jokingness, His love, His care. This guy made Matthew feel seen. He gave him his worth. He gave him his purpose. I hope it inspires people who are looking for their own purpose.” He added that, in many ways, he feels as though he was chosen for the role, making it even more significant to him personally.

Noah James, who plays Andrew, echoed Patel’s sentiments, emphasizing the strong bond among the cast members and the deep connections formed throughout their time working together. He shared, “We really love each other. I just hope we get to do things like this all the time, so that even when the show is over, we get to be in each other’s lives. We’re running to the home stretch. And we’re going to make it the best one yet.”

Giavani Cairo, who portrays Thaddeus, spoke about the renewal of his faith that coincided with his involvement in The Chosen. Cairo explained how the show’s impact extended beyond his professional life, describing it as an extension of his family. “The Chosen came when my faith started being renewed for the first time in a long time,” he said. “It’s given me an extended family. These are my brothers and sisters for life.” He also shared his excitement for what lies ahead in the final season, particularly looking forward to the depiction of the resurrection. “I’m so interested to see what that looks like,” Cairo said. “I don’t know how they’re going to do it, but I can’t wait to read it. It’s going to be emotional.”

As The Chosen continues its incredible global journey, earlier this year, the series achieved a significant milestone by setting a Guinness World Record for the most translated season of a streaming series. The nonprofit organization, Come and See, which supports the distribution of the show, has ambitious plans to translate and dub The Chosen into 600 languages, aiming to reach approximately 95% of the world’s population. This expansion is part of the show’s broader vision to connect with audiences around the globe, regardless of language barriers.

Currently, Season 5, titled The Chosen: Last Supper, is available for streaming on Prime Video.
