Titus Welliver, Franka Potente and other actors have joined the cast of ‘Dark Winds’ season 4

Dark Winds‘ fourth season expanded beyond the reservation with a whole new cast of characters.
Season 4 of the hit thriller — which premiered on AMC in February 2026 and was added to Netflix in July 2026 — follows Navajo Tribal Police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) as he travels to 1970s Los Angeles to investigate the disappearance of a Navajo teenager.
Alongside his longtime associates Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) and Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten), Leaphorn crosses paths with a new roster of characters.
“I’m always amazed by the actors we get,” McClarnon said in an April 2026 interview with AMC Talk. “I’m just a big fan of these people and being able to work with them is incredible.”

Isabel DeRoy-Olson as Billie Tsosie

Isabel DeRoy-Olson plays Billie Tsosie, a Navajo teen who escapes from boarding school and quickly finds herself in over her head.
According to TV Insider and Deadline, she is forced to face a Los Angeles criminal kingpin her cousins had been working for.
Franka Potente as Irene Vaggan

In March 2025, Deadline reported that Franka Potente was cast as Irene Vaggan, an expert assassin who is also in pursuit of Billie.
McClarnon described this season’s villain as “a formidable antagonist” for Leaphorn, who also has a ”weird obsession” with Native culture, per AMC Talks.
“She has an obsession with Joe Leaphorn,” Potente told TV Insider in January 2026. “She believes he is her ideal man, and she cannot harm him. Irene becomes Joe’s psycho stalker … and everyone’s nightmare.”
Titus Welliver as Dominic McNair

Bosch alum Titus Welliver was cast as the ruthless L.A. crime boss Dominic McNair, who runs drugs and stolen luxury goods in and out of the city, per TVLine.
Though his character is incarcerated throughout the season, the actor told TV Insider in March 2026 he’s “still the puppet master” who is “moving all these pieces around” for his operation.
“You have to transmit the level of peril without doing too much because we don’t really get any general backstory on his relationship with Vaggan and all of that,” he explained. “So it all has to translate in those few scenes, which were a lot of fun to do.”
Chaske Spencer as Sonny Bear Heart

Deadline reported in March 2025 that Chaske Spencer had been cast as Sonny Bear Heart, one of McNair’s recruiters.
Described as “charismatic and lethal,” his job is to lure young Native American men who are away from their reservations into a life of crime.
Spencer has shared the screen with Gordon before in The Twilight Saga film series.

Luke Barnett joined the Dark Winds season 4 cast as FBI Special Agent Toby Shaw, who becomes entangled in Leaphorn’s case while looking for answers about one of his friends, per Deadline.
The actor told Variety in June 2026 that though he landed the role because executive producer Max Hurwitz liked his viral short film The Crossing Over Express, the fact that he shared the character’s “bushy mustache” didn’t hurt.
