Most fans now know Taylor Sheridan for developing the neo-western world of Yellowstone, which has numerous spin-offs with some of the biggest names in the industry. He singlehandedly built a TV empire that includes fan-favorite hits like Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King, Zoe Saldaña-led Lioness, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-starring 1923, and recently released Marshals and The Madison. But before that, the acclaimed creator wrote several fan-favorite films.

Some of his most notable films include Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges’ Hell or High Water, Jeremy Renner’s Wind River, and Michael B Jordan-starring Without Remorse. However, he first broke out with a Denis Villeneuve-directed film, Sicario. The film, starring Emily Blunt, marks the start of his American Frontier trilogy, which also includes the aforementioned Hell or High Water and Wind River.

SICARIO: DĂŤA DEL SOLDADO | Las Mejores Escenas | Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin

Sicario is a thrilling story that follows Blunt’s principled FBI special agent, Kate, who is enlisted by a government task force to bring down the leader of a powerful and brutal Mexican drug cartel. The narrative shows the early tropes that will become cornerstones of Sheridan’s storytelling later. The movie received high praise upon its release and was nominated for several Oscars and BAFTAs. It made $84.9 million worldwide on a $30 million budget and garnered a lot of appreciation for the top-line talent, including Villeneuve, Sheridan, and Blunt.

The 91% Rotten Tomatoes-rated film has some great performances from Benicio del Toro, Jon Bernthal, Daniel Kaluuya, and Josh Brolin. The success of the film led to a sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which was a brilliant follow-up, sans some of the original stars. A third movie in the franchise is still in development, with fans waiting with bated breath. However, while you wait, do check out Sicario on Netflix before it leaves the platform on April 30.

Where Is ‘Sicario’ Cast and Crew Now?

Sicario: Day of the Soldado' Returns to the Border

In the following years, Sheridan built his huge TV empire comprising several fan-favorite, high-viewership shows. As for Blunt, she’s booked and busy promoting her new legacy sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep. She’ll also be seen in the third iteration of A Quiet Place. The movie will bring back Blunt’s real-life and on-screen husband, John Krasinski, to write and direct the final chapter of the alien-invasion story. As for Villeneuve, he’s gearing up for Dune: Part 3, releasing in December, and will move on to direct the next Bond movie.

Sicario will leave Netflix on April 30. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
