Sylvester Stallone in Tulsa King

Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King universe is getting bigger, and now fans have their first real look at what’s next. Frisco King, the Paramount+ spin-off led by Samuel L. Jackson, has officially started production, with Sylvester Stallone sharing a new behind-the-scenes photo from set that confirms the series is finally rolling.

The image, posted by Stallone on April 15, shows him alongside Jackson and director Christina Alexandra Voros, with the caption, “From one king to another. Frisco King is now in production!” It’s a small tease, but it’s enough to make one thing clear: this next chapter is very much in motion, and Stallone may not be staying far from the action. He’s already attached as an executive producer, and the photo only adds to the idea that Dwight Manfredi could have some role to play in the spin-off too.

The new series was previously known as NOLA King, but it has since shifted gears and become a North Texas production under the new title Frisco King. Filming began in Fort Worth in late March, and the show is expected to continue shooting across Fort Worth, Plano, Dallas, Frisco, Keller, Denton, and Southlake through July. That’s a pretty major footprint, and it’s another sign of just how much Sheridan’s TV empire has planted itself in Texas.

Jackson stars as Russell Lee Washington Jr., a hitman who previously crossed paths with Stallone’s Dwight on Tulsa King. The character appeared in the final two episodes of the show’s third season, setting the stage for this expansion. Sheridan is writing every episode of the eight-episode series himself, which should tell fans exactly how seriously Paramount+ is taking this one.

There’s also a growing cast around Jackson. In addition to Stallone’s involvement behind the scenes, Frisco King will star Kai CasterAsa GermannLilah Pate, and Savanna Gann. Showrunner Jay Bienstock is executive producing alongside Sheridan’s wider team, and the production has also recently made a stop in Atlanta, likely to line up with Stallone while Tulsa King Season 4 continues filming there.

Is ‘Tulsa King’ Good?

Collider’s review stated that Tulsa King Season 3 wastes absolutely no time getting going, and that’s exactly what the show needed. After a slower, more uneven second season, this new chapter comes in with sharper focus, bigger threats, and a much stronger sense of momentum. It’s easily the most exciting the series has been so far, even if it still has a few rough edges.

“It boasts greater involvement and development of some key, formerly underutilized players, which benefits its storytelling. There’s also a promise of greater mob danger as the narrative plays out, keeping the pressure on Dwight and refusing to let go. While it’s impossible to say how well everything will ultimately come together, Tulsa King Season 3 is a thoroughly tense ride nonetheless — and the best that Sheridan’s series has been so far.”

Frisco King is in production now, while Tulsa King is streaming now on Paramount+.
