Fans of The Lincoln Lawyer will soon have to say goodbye to one of Netflix’s most popular legal dramas. After four successful seasons filled with shocking courtroom battles, personal betrayals, and dangerous investigations, the series has officially completed production on its fifth and final season.

The upcoming season promises to be the most emotional chapter yet for Mickey Haller, the charismatic Los Angeles defense attorney known for taking on impossible cases. After surviving the events of season four, Mickey enters his final journey facing new threats, buried family secrets, and a case that could change everything he knows about his past.

Netflix confirmed that season five will consist of 10 episodes and will adapt “Resurrection Walk,” the seventh novel in Michael Connelly’s bestselling book series. The final season will bring Mickey’s story to a proper conclusion, although fans will not see the newest book, The Proving Ground, adapted for the show.

The decision to end the series came as a surprise to many viewers because The Lincoln Lawyer remained a major success for Netflix. The show spent 29 weeks on the platform’s Global Top 10 chart and accumulated more than 171 million views since 2023, proving that audiences continued to support Mickey Haller’s journey.

Although the creators had hoped the series could continue, they revealed that the ending was ultimately Netflix’s decision. Co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez clarified that the cancellation was not caused by the creative team, while Ted Humphrey expressed gratitude that they were still given the chance to create a meaningful conclusion rather than ending the story without closure

The final season will pick up after one of Mickey’s most traumatic experiences. In season four, Mickey was framed for the murder of former client Sam Scales and faced the possibility of spending his life behind bars. Although he eventually proved his innocence, the victory came with devastating consequences.

Mickey lost David “Legal” Siegel, his mentor and father figure, who died after suffering a fatal heart attack. Without Legal’s guidance, Mickey must now navigate his biggest professional and personal challenges alone. His mentor’s absence will become a major emotional obstacle as he tries to move forward.

However, Mickey’s life becomes even more complicated when a mysterious woman from his past suddenly appears. At the end of season four, viewers saw a woman played by Cobie Smulders save Mickey during a dangerous shooting incident before revealing that she was his sister.

The character has now been officially identified as Artemisia “Emi” Finch, Mickey’s half-sister who he never knew existed. In season five, Emi arrives with a desperate request: she wants Mickey to help free a woman who has been wrongfully imprisoned for allegedly murdering her former husband, a sheriff’s deputy.

The new case will push Mickey into a complicated legal battle as he attempts to overturn a six-year-old conviction. During the investigation, he discovers a dangerous network of corruption and deception while also confronting painful truths about his own family history.

The introduction of Emi Finch also serves another purpose. In the original “Resurrection Walk” novel, Mickey works closely with his half-brother Harry Bosch. However, because the Bosch character belongs to Prime Video’s universe, Netflix cannot use him in the series. Emi was created as a replacement figure who brings similar investigative skills and helps Mickey uncover the truth behind difficult cases.

The final season will bring back many familiar faces. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will return as Mickey Haller, alongside Becki Newton as Lorna, Jazz Raycole as Izzy, and Angus Sampson as Cisco. Neve Campbell, Krista Warner, Angelica Maria, and Gigi Zumbado are also expected to return.

Cobie Smulders has been promoted to a series regular after her dramatic introduction in the season four finale. The final season will also introduce several new characters, including judges, prosecutors, investigators, and members of the Finch family.

One notable absence is Yaya DaCosta, who played Andrea “Andy” Freeman. Her character is not expected to appear because she does not have a role in the “Resurrection Walk” storyline.

Production officially wrapped in July 2026 after filming began earlier that year. The series is now entering post-production, with the final episodes expected to arrive on Netflix in early 2027, likely between February and April based on previous production timelines.
