This Was More Than Just Acting – THE CHOSEN SEASON 6 IS CREATING THE MOST HAUNTING SCENE IN THE SHOW’S HISTORY. Dallas Jenkins initially set out to direct a standard scene, but the entire set fell into a heavy silence the moment the three crosses appeared at Golgotha. Everyone knew this definitive moment had finally arrived, their eyes locked on Jonathan Roumie as he faced the most challenging scene of his career. While onlookers saw him confront it with absolute composure, it was only after everything wrapped amid the collective sobbing of the cast that Jonathan Roumie opened up with raw, heartfelt reflections on what he had just endured during this sacred shoot—leaving everyone completely stunned into silence.

The upcoming sixth season of The Chosen is shaping up to be the most emotionally demanding chapter of the series so far, as the story reaches the final days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. Behind the scenes, the cast and crew have described the production as a deeply challenging experience, with the crucifixion sequence becoming one of the most difficult moments they have ever filmed.

As the series moves closer to the events leading to Golgotha, the emotional pressure surrounding the production has become impossible to ignore. Season 6 is not only the longest filming process in the history of The Chosen, but it also requires the actors to portray some of the most painful and significant moments in the biblical narrative.

Among everyone involved, Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus, has faced perhaps the greatest emotional responsibility. For years, Roumie has brought a human and compassionate version of Jesus to millions of viewers around the world. But portraying the final hours of Jesus’ life required him to enter a completely different emotional space.

The crucifixion scenes demanded far more than technical acting skills. They required Roumie to connect with the suffering, loneliness, and sacrifice of the character while also carrying the awareness that this moment holds deep spiritual meaning for millions of people.

Maybe you’re excited for Season 6. Maybe you’re dreading it. If you’re in the latter category, Jonathan Roumie wants to remind you of something.

In June, Roumie shared a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of his experience while filming the crucifixion. In a series of photos posted online, the actor stood beside the cross while wearing neither his Jesus costume nor makeup. The simple image revealed the emotional connection he had developed with the symbol at the center of the story.

Roumie explained that the photos might be the only opportunity fans would have to see him outside of the character for quite some time. He described spending the previous weeks becoming deeply familiar with the cross, suggesting that the filming process had created a powerful personal connection between himself and the scene.

Here I am. On this Feast of the Holy Trinity. These photos will likely be the only glimpse of me out of costume / makeup that I'll be able to share for

The actor also revealed that the production schedule remained extremely intense, leaving little time for breaks or additional behind-the-scenes moments. The demanding pace of filming reflected just how much effort was being invested into bringing Jesus’ final days to the screen.

For Roumie, the challenge was not only physical. Spending long hours filming emotional scenes, wearing heavy makeup, and recreating moments of suffering required tremendous mental and spiritual endurance. The actor had to repeatedly return to one of the darkest moments in Jesus’ story while maintaining the emotional truth of the character.

Other cast members have also spoken about the impact of filming Season 6. Shaan Sharma, who portrays Shmuel, explained that one of the hardest parts was watching his fellow actors experience some of the most intense emotional performances of their careers.

According to Sharma, the weight of the material affected everyone on set. The cast was not simply performing dramatic scenes — they were recreating moments that have shaped the beliefs and emotions of countless people throughout history.

The production team also faced major challenges behind the cameras. Season 6 required the longest shooting schedule the series has ever had, with many scenes filmed under difficult conditions. The combination of emotionally heavy material and physically exhausting production demands created an environment unlike any previous season.

Despite these challenges, creator Dallas Jenkins and the team remained committed to approaching the Passion storyline with respect, historical care, and emotional depth. Rather than focusing only on the suffering of Jesus, they wanted to show the larger meaning behind the events — sacrifice, love, forgiveness, and hope.

The crucifixion will represent a major turning point for The Chosen. After following Jesus’ relationships, teachings, miracles, and growing influence throughout previous seasons, audiences will finally witness the moment that changes the course of the story forever.

Season 6 is expected to premiere in late 2026, with the finale receiving a special theatrical release in March 2027. The following season will focus on the resurrection storyline, bringing the series toward its ultimate conclusion.

As anticipation continues to build, the emotional stories emerging from the set reveal the extraordinary dedication behind the production. Jonathan Roumie’s experience with the crucifixion scene shows that for the cast of The Chosen, this was not simply another dramatic performance.

It was a journey that tested their emotions, challenged their limits, and reminded them of the responsibility they carried while bringing one of the most influential stories in history to life.
