Ian Bohen has declined to rule out a return to the Yellowstone universe, saying he would be open to revisiting his character Ryan on the spin-off Dutton Ranch, potentially alongside country singer Lainey Wilson’s Abby. The comments came in an exclusive conversation with Us at the New York red-carpet premiere of Lioness on 29 July 2026.

Leaving the door open

Bohen, 49, is best known to Yellowstone fans as Ryan, the ranch hand whose relationship with aspiring singer Abby became one of the show’s quieter romantic arcs. Asked about the possibility of crossing over into Dutton Ranch, he replied that it would be “interesting to see where Abby and Ryan are within that world.”

He noted that the new series has only completed its first season and is still mapping out its longer-term direction. “They got one season under their belt and they’re figuring out their future and their arc for the next several seasons,” he said. “Maybe there’ll be a spot for those two people to show up and contribute. That’d be great.”

The remarks fall short of a confirmation, yet they stop well short of a rejection. In an expanding franchise that has already moved key characters into new settings, the suggestion that Ryan and Abby could reappear carries clear interest for viewers who followed their story on the original series.

Still inside the Sheridan orbit

Bohen has remained closely tied to Taylor Sheridan’s slate of projects. He appears in season 3 of Lioness, the Paramount+ espionage thriller created by Sheridan that centres on a CIA unit deploying female operatives in undercover counter-terror missions. The new season is scheduled to premiere on 2 August 2026.

Speaking about the collaboration, Bohen was complimentary. “Taylor’s words are extraordinary — of course — on the page,” he said. “As far as an on the day collaborator, he’s attentive and he listens and he’s a very good communicator. When you talk with him about what you’re doing on set and a scene and a direction, he makes you feel like you’re important.”

He described the ongoing working relationship as a “treat,” comparing it to working with a close friend. “I’m blessed to continue to work with him and I look forward to continuing that in the future.”

When the conversation turned to other existing Sheridan series — including Landman — Bohen kept the same open stance. “From your lips to God’s ears,” he said. “But also who knows what the future holds.”

Where Dutton Ranch sits in the franchise

Yellowstone concluded in 2024 after several seasons that made Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) central figures. The wider universe has since branched out: Luke Grimes leads the CBS series Marshals, while Dutton Ranch follows Beth and Rip into a new chapter of their lives. The spin-off’s first season has already aired, and producers are shaping the storylines that will carry it forward.

Ryan and Abby occupied a different emotional register from the show’s more explosive relationships. Their arc mixed ranch work, music ambitions and a relatively grounded romance. Bringing those characters into Dutton Ranch, even for a limited appearance, would offer a point of continuity for long-time viewers and a chance to check in on where the pair stand years after the events of the original series.

A measured outlook

Bohen’s comments reflect a familiar posture among actors still working inside Sheridan’s growing television ecosystem: appreciation for the collaboration, openness to future opportunities, and an understanding that story decisions ultimately rest with the writers and producers. He is currently focused on Lioness, yet he has made clear that a return to the Dutton world — particularly one that reunites Ryan with Abby — is something he would welcome if the creative path opens.

For fans of the original Yellowstone, the interview provides a modest but tangible note of possibility. The characters have not been written out of existence; their actor remains willing; and the new series is still early enough in its run that room could yet be found.
