If you’ve ever watched a Taylor Sheridan show and thought, “This guy is too good to be real,” you’re not alone. For years, people have wondered how the same actor keeps showing up in all of Sheridan’s projects — and how he keeps surviving long enough to come back for more.
His name is James Jordan, and he’s Taylor Sheridan’s go-to guy.
From the neo-Western Wind River (2017) to the Yellowstone universe, 1883, Those Who Wish Me Dead, Lioness, and Landman, James has been one of the most consistent faces in Sheridan’s expanding empire. He doesn’t just get offered roles — he gets offered the roles that make you stop and say, “Wait, this is James Jordan again?”
The Man Who Showed Up and Never Left

It all started when James Jordan walked into a theater in 2015 and watched Sicario. The intense, gut-punching action thriller hit him so hard that he immediately wrote down the name “Taylor Sheridan” and called his agent the next day.
“I had nothing to do,” James recalled in a red carpet interview with CBS Texas. “So I was like, ‘I’m gonna go see a movie.’ And I watched that movie, and I left the theater and I went to the poster and I thought, ‘Who the F wrote this? This screenplay is perfect.’”
A few months later, he auditioned for Wind River, landed the role of the villain Pete Mickens, and never looked back.
Since then, James has become Sheridan’s signature supporting player — the guy who shows up, does the work, and somehow still gets to come back for the next project. He’s played Mayor of Kingstown’s Ward Smith, Dale on Landman (which just got renewed for Season 3), Two Cups on Lioness (currently airing Season 3), and dozens of other memorable characters across the Sheridan-verse.
Why James Keeps Getting Asked Back
In interviews over the years, James has been refreshingly honest about what makes working with Taylor Sheridan so special.
“When you get to work with a master storyteller like Taylor Sheridan it just doesn’t get any better,” he told Town & Country earlier this year. “He really has the pulse of the culture right now. When he’s writing a story it usually just clicks into place for me. I love the worlds and frontiers that he likes to explore, and I fit into those worlds, for the most part.”

But let’s be real — not everyone survives the Sheridan treatment.
In a 2022 Deadline interview, Taylor himself joked that James is basically his “pinch-hitter” — the actor he can trust to die when needed. Sheridan has killed off James’s characters more times than anyone in Hollywood wants to admit, and yet here he is, still showing up, still smiling, and still delivering some of the best performances in the entire universe.
Dale and Two Cups: The Two Roles That Make James Love Going to Work
Right now, James is thriving in two Taylor Sheridan series at the same time — and he’s never happier.
On Landman, he plays Dale, the tough, no-nonsense character who runs a major oil company and keeps the whole operation running. The show just got renewed for Season 3, and James is already in Texas shooting.
On Lioness, he’s Two Cups — the sharp, witty, loyal guy who’s become a fan favorite. Season 3 is currently airing, and James has said he’s having the time of his life bringing both characters to life.

“I love going to work and telling both of these stories,” James told Town & Country. “Bringing to life Dale and Two Cups is a riot for me. No one can say I don’t have a blast doing it.”
The Man Who Keeps Saying Yes to Sheridan
When asked about why he keeps taking Taylor’s calls, James didn’t hesitate.
“I can’t say no to the man,” he told Us Weekly in July. “He’s my favorite writer in our business. I admire him. He’s a mentor. He’s a friend. When someone comes to you and says, ‘Hey man, I want to use you again in a project.’ If someone works that hard and comes to you and says, ‘I trust you, I believe in you, I’m confident in your ability,’ then you show up. You want to work your butt off for him.”
And work his butt off he does.
James Jordan has become the face of Sheridan’s universe — the guy you see in every major show, the one who always shows up, always delivers, and somehow keeps getting asked back. Whether it’s playing a villain in the beginning of a saga or a trusted ally at the end, James Jordan is always the one who fits perfectly.
So the next time you see him on screen — whether it’s Landman, Lioness, or one of Sheridan’s many other projects — just remember: this is the guy Taylor Sheridan keeps calling back. And James Jordan… he keeps answering.
