BTS continues to dominate global headlines as its latest album “ARIRANG” ranked No. 4 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart, just one week after debuting at the top spot. According to the latest chart update released Friday (local time), the group’s fifth studio album dropped three places, now sitting behind “This Music May Contain Hope.” by Raye, “The Art of Loving” by Olivia Dean, and “Bully” by Ye.
Despite the drop, “ARIRANG” had already made a powerful impact by debuting at No. 1 last week, marking BTS’s third chart-topping album in the UK following “Map of the Soul: Persona” (2019) and “Map of the Soul: 7” (2020). The achievement once again reaffirmed the group’s global influence, even as competition on international charts continues to intensify.
On the Official Singles Chart, “SWIM,” the album’s lead track, also experienced a slight decline, falling to No. 5 after debuting at No. 2—the highest position BTS has ever achieved on the chart. The track remains a strong performer, however, continuing to receive steady streams and attention from listeners worldwide.
Produced under the direction of HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk, “ARIRANG” delves into BTS’s identity as a group rooted in Korea while expressing universal emotions shaped by their personal and collective journeys. Meanwhile, “SWIM” stands out as an upbeat alternative pop track that metaphorically explores navigating life’s challenges, with lyrics co-written by the group’s leader RM.
The album marks BTS’s long-awaited return on March 20 after nearly four years of hiatus from group activities due to mandatory military service. To celebrate their comeback, the group held a large-scale free concert at Gwanghwamun Square, drawing tens of thousands of fans and signaling their powerful return to the global stage.
Notably, BTS’s impact is not limited to the UK. “ARIRANG” and “SWIM” also debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100, respectively, further cementing their status as one of the most influential acts in the global music industry.
