“Get down to the kitchen right now, prepare a three-course dinner, and serve it to us like a proper hostess!”
My husband, Brandon, bellowed up the staircase, his voice laced with unearned authority. He didn’t care that I was eight months pregnant with our first child, nor that my ankles were swollen and every step caused a shooting pain down my back.
Brandon had been growing increasingly distant and arrogant over the past few months. Driven by his newly acquired executive position and inflated ego, he decided to perform the ultimate act of disrespect. That evening, he walked through the front door with a stunning, elegantly dressed woman in her late twenties—his new mistress, Victoria—and immediately treated me like an unpaid servant in my own home.
When I slowly navigated the stairs, leaning heavily on the banister, Brandon gestured dismissively toward the kitchen island.
“Don’t just stand there waddling!” Brandon snapped, letting out a loud, mocking laugh as he casually threw his arm around Victoria’s waist. “Bring out the roasted chicken and open a bottle of vintage red! My guest deserves top-tier hospitality, so make yourself useful for once instead of sitting around all day looking helpless!”
Victoria, sitting on the plush leather barstool, looked visibly uncomfortable at his harsh tone. She glanced down at my heavily pregnant stomach, a faint flicker of confusion crossing her face, though she remained quiet as Brandon continued to laugh and boast about how he “ran the household with an iron fist.”
Swallowing my humiliation, I walked into the kitchen, my heart pounding with a cold, sharp rage. I carefully arranged the dinner plates onto a silver tray, poured two glasses of wine, and carried the heavy tray out to the dining counter.
“Here is your dinner, Brandon,” I said, setting the main platter down before turning directly to Victoria with a polite, calm smile. “And welcome to our home. I apologize if the service is a bit slow today—being eight months pregnant with Brandon’s child makes moving around a bit difficult.”
Victoria froze. The wine glass she was lifting halfway to her lips stopped mid-air.
“Wait…” Victoria stammered, her eyes widening in complete shock as she looked back and forth between my massive baby bump and Brandon’s suddenly nervous face. “Brandon’s child? Your home? What are you talking about?!”
Brandon’s smug smirk instantly evaporated, his face flushing a deep, panicky red. “Clara, shut up and go back upstairs!” he shouted, trying to laugh it off as he turned to Victoria. “She’s just… she’s the live-in housekeeper! She’s confused and exaggerating—”
“I am his wife of four years,” I interrupted smoothly, pulling my phone from my pocket and placing a framed, high-definition wedding photograph on the granite counter right beside Victoria’s plate. “We were married in 2022, and this is our legal residence. I’m guessing he never mentioned me to you?”
Victoria stared at the wedding photo, then at the certified prenatal ultrasound pictures taped to our refrigerator door nearby. The realization hit her like a tidal wave.
“You told me you lived alone in a luxury condo!” Victoria gasped, her voice trembling with intense disgust as she stood up from the barstool, backing away from Brandon as if he were poisonous. “You told me you were single! You brought me into your home to make your heavily pregnant wife serve me dinner?!”
“Victoria, baby, please! Listen to me!” Brandon pleaded frantically, his voice cracking into a high-pitched, pathetic whimper as he reached out to grab her arm. “It’s not what it looks like! We’re getting a divorce soon anyway! I did this for us!”
“Don’t you dare touch me, you disgusting creep!” Victoria shrieked, violently slapping his hand away.
She turned to me, her eyes filled with genuine remorse and shock. “I am so, so sorry. I had absolutely no idea he was married, let alone that he had a pregnant wife at home. I would never have stepped foot in this house if I knew!”
“I know,” I replied softly. “It’s not your fault. He lied to both of us.”
Victoria grabbed her designer handbag, pulled out a glass of ice water from the counter, and dumped it straight across Brandon’s expensive suit jacket.
“You are a pathetic, narcissistic monster!” Victoria spat, throwing the empty glass onto his lap. “If you ever call me, text me, or come near my office again, I will report you to corporate HR and show everyone what a fraud you are!”
Without waiting another second, Victoria turned on her high heels and stormed out the front door, slamming it shut so hard the windows rattled.
Brandon stood in the middle of the dining room, soaked in cold water, his arrogant facade completely shattered into a thousand pieces as he stared at the front door in utter defeat.
He slowly turned his head to glare at me, his fists clenched tight. “You ruined everything! Do you have any idea what you just did?!”
“No, Brandon,” I said coldly, walking over to the dining table and picking up the house keys. “You ruined yourself. And while you’re cleaning up that water, you can start packing your bags—my divorce lawyer will be serving you at your office tomorrow morning.”
I walked back up the stairs, leaving the disgraced man standing alone in his wet suit, knowing that my baby and I were finally free from his cruel deceit forever.
