One of the most shocking developments in episode 5 was Rip accepting a job at Bula’s ranch. At the beginning of the series, I had assumed that Dutton Ranch would emerge as a direct competitor to Tin Petal Ranch. However, the storyline took a very different turn. Suddenly, Rip found himself making a deal to work for Bula, which instantly shifted the dynamics we had expected. What made this even more surprising was that by the end of the episode, Beth also struck a deal with Tin Petal Ranch. This meant that both Rip and Beth had positioned themselves to generate profit for their biggest rivals. But it’s clear to anyone following the story that Rip and Beth have a larger agenda in mind. Deep down, they are plotting to take over Tin Petal Ranch, and the way things are unfolding suggests that their strategy is already taking shape.

Rip has clearly earned Bula’s trust. His confidence, combined with his obvious expertise, makes him an invaluable asset. One striking moment was when Rip fired Chad without hesitation. This act not only demonstrated his authority but likely reinforced Bula’s trust in him. Meanwhile, Waqen’s inability to control Chad highlights the growing disparity between Rip and Waqen in Bula’s eyes. With Beth joining Tin Petal Ranch and pointing out Waqen’s shortcomings, the pressure on him is mounting. We might see Waqen attempting to counter Beth and Rip, but ultimately, Bula is the decision-maker. As long as Rip and Beth continue producing results for her, she is likely to overlook any internal conflicts.

The return of Bula’s son, Rob Will, at the end of episode 5 introduces another layer of tension. Rob Will visited Cadet, but it’s likely he will return to Tin Petal Ranch in episode 6. Bula may not be thrilled about his sudden comeback, especially given the complicated dynamics at play. Rob Will is bound to have a strong reaction when he sees Rip, particularly since Rip previously defeated him in a confrontation. Rob Will will probably demand that Bula fire Rip, but Bula, recognizing Rip’s effectiveness and skill, will likely refuse. This could inadvertently push Rob Will closer to Rip, further destabilizing Bula’s relationship with her children and creating an opening for Beth and Rip to advance their plan.

Rip is also expected to bring up the mysterious dead body that appeared on their ranch. This development will put both Rob and Waqen in a vulnerable position. With things slowing down at Dutton Ranch, it’s possible that Rip will enlist them to spy on Tin Petal Ranch, specifically keeping tabs on Rob Will. Their surveillance could reveal any mistakes Rob Will makes, giving Rip the opportunity to use that information for his own advantage and to further his plans against Tin Petal Ranch.

Rip and Beth have skillfully positioned themselves to influence events at both ranches, while Rob Will and Waqen are becoming increasingly vulnerable.
