Fans of Sullivan’s Crossing have received the update they have been waiting for: production on Season 5 is officially underway.

Series stars Morgan Kohan and Chad Michael Murray confirmed that cameras are rolling again, sharing the news with viewers on social media as they returned to Halifax, Nova Scotia, for another chapter of the popular romantic drama.

The announcement comes after Sullivan’s Crossing secured its fifth-season renewal in both Canada and the United States. The CW has confirmed that the upcoming installment will contain 10 episodes and will premiere in 2027.

Morgan Kohan and Chad Michael Murray are back on set

Kohan, who plays neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan, and Murray, who stars as Cal Jones, appeared together in a video announcing that filming had begun.

The two actors expressed their excitement about returning to work and bringing another season of the series to audiences.

Murray appeared particularly enthusiastic in the lighthearted clip, at one point pretending that he was ready to leap from the deck into the water below. Kohan quickly reminded him that they still had another scene to shoot.

Their playful appearance offered fans an early behind-the-scenes look at the new production and confirmed that work on the fifth season is moving ahead without a major delay.

Season 5 is expected in 2027

Although production has started, viewers should not expect new episodes before the end of 2026.

Current production information indicates that filming in Nova Scotia is scheduled to continue through December 11, 2026. Once principal photography is completed, the episodes will move into post-production ahead of their television debut.

The CW has officially announced a 2027 premiere window but has not yet revealed an exact date.

Previous seasons of Sullivan’s Crossing have generally arrived during the spring, making a spring 2027 launch a reasonable possibility if the show follows its familiar release pattern. However, viewers will have to wait for an official announcement before a specific date can be confirmed.

The series is expected to premiere first through its Canadian broadcast partners before continuing its U.S. run on The CW.

The drama continues after a major Season 4 change

Season 5 follows a period of considerable change for the series.

Scott Patterson, who portrayed Harry “Sully” Sullivan during the show’s first three seasons, did not return for Season 4.

Sully had previously been written out of the story by leaving on an international trip at the end of Season 3, initially leaving open the possibility that the character could eventually return.

However, Patterson ultimately remained absent from the fourth season.

That development represented one of the show’s biggest cast changes since its launch and significantly altered Maggie’s family storyline.

Season 5 is now expected to continue exploring the consequences of Sully’s absence as Maggie attempts to move forward with her life.

Another major change is happening behind the scenes

The upcoming season will also introduce a new creative leader.

Roma Roth, who created the television adaptation and originally served as showrunner, has stepped away from her day-to-day role as head writer and showrunner.

She remains involved with the series as an executive producer but is focusing part of her attention on another television project, Thunder Point.

Like Sullivan’s Crossing, Thunder Point is based on novels by bestselling author Robyn Carr.

Canadian writer and producer Floyd Kane has taken over as the new head writer for Sullivan’s Crossing, putting him in charge of the creative direction of Season 5.

The change represents another significant development behind the scenes, although Roth’s continued involvement as an executive producer means the series still retains a connection to its original creative leadership.

Ten new episodes are on the way

The CW officially confirmed in July that Season 5 will consist of 10 episodes.

That keeps the upcoming installment in line with the format viewers have become accustomed to from previous seasons.

Based on Robyn Carr’s bestselling novel series, Sullivan’s Crossing centers on Maggie Sullivan, a successful neurosurgeon whose life changes dramatically after professional difficulties force her to return to her hometown.

There, she reconnects with her father, her community and eventually Cal Jones, whose relationship with Maggie becomes one of the emotional foundations of the show.

Kohan and Murray will once again lead the drama when the series returns.

Production is moving forward in Nova Scotia

Sullivan's Crossing' Renewed For Season 2 At The CW & CTV

The show’s scenic Canadian setting remains an essential part of its identity, and Season 5 is once again being filmed in Nova Scotia.

Production information lists Halifax among the principal locations, with filming scheduled across the latter part of 2026.

With cameras now rolling, the long wait for more episodes has officially entered its next stage.

There are still several major details yet to be announced, including the exact premiere date and additional information about the storylines awaiting Maggie, Cal and the rest of the community.

For now, however, fans have the confirmation they wanted most: Sullivan’s Crossing Season 5 is no longer simply in development — production is officially underway, with another 10 episodes scheduled to bring viewers back to the Crossing in 2027.
