The first official teaser for Season 6 has finally arrived, offering a glimpse of what promises to be the most emotionally demanding installment of the hit series. Rather than spanning months or years of biblical events, the upcoming season narrows its focus to one unforgettable period: the final 24 hours leading to the crucifixion of Jesus.

The newly released footage wastes little time revealing the emotional weight audiences should expect. Scenes from Christ’s arrest, His trials, the brutal scourging, the painful journey toward Calvary, and His final moments on the cross are all woven into a trailer that emphasizes sacrifice over spectacle.

For fans who have followed the show’s journey since its debut, the teaser signals a dramatic turning point—not only for the story itself but also for the cast responsible for bringing these events to life.

Season 6 will consist of six episodes, but viewers won’t receive the entire story at once. The first three episodes are scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on Nov. 15, while the remaining chapters will arrive weekly through Dec. 6. The conclusion, however, will stand apart from the rest of the season. Rather than debuting on streaming, the finale will receive an exclusive theatrical release on March 12, 2027, allowing audiences to experience the climax on the big screen.

Although the trailer has generated excitement, one of the most moving aspects of the production has come from the people behind the cameras.

Jonathan Roumie, who portrays Jesus throughout the series, has openly spoken about how portraying Christ’s suffering affected him long after filming ended.

During an interview with EWTN News at ChosenCon earlier this year, the actor admitted that the experience stayed with him in ways he never anticipated.

“For the first few months afterwards going to Mass — and even thinking about it now — I just get weepy. I get emotional. It’s hard. It’s left an indelible impression on me — mentally and emotionally sharing even just a percentage, a micron of a percentage, of the Lord’s passion; playing it and reenacting it has left me absolutely humbled and moved.”

Roumie explained that simply participating in a small artistic representation of Christ’s Passion left him emotionally transformed. Even months after filming wrapped, memories of those scenes continued to affect him during worship and everyday reflection.

His experience reflects the extraordinary demands placed upon the cast while filming some of Christianity’s most significant events.

Those challenges extended well beyond the actors.

Production of the crucifixion sequence took place over three weeks in Matera, Italy, during June 2025. According to series creator, writer, and director Dallas Jenkins, those weeks became the most difficult stretch of production the team had ever faced.

Speaking during a Vatican press conference after filming concluded, Jenkins described the experience as unlike anything they had encountered previously. He called the three-week shoot “the most challenging and difficult we had in filming,” explaining that the magnitude of the subject matter required him to completely surrender the process to Christ.

The combination of physically demanding scenes and the spiritual significance of the story created an atmosphere that cast and crew have repeatedly described as deeply personal rather than simply professional.

As anticipation continues to build for the new season, viewers will also see The Chosen expand beyond television.

The production company behind the series, 5&2 Studios, has partnered with Capitol Christian Music Group to produce an original companion album inspired by the show’s themes.

The first single, “All I Need Is You,” will be released on Aug. 7 and is performed by country music star Tyler Hubbard. Additional artists participating in the project will be announced in the coming weeks.

For Hubbard, contributing to the project carried personal significance because The Chosen had already become part of his family’s daily life.

“My wife, my three kids, and I have a nightly ritual of watching ‘The Chosen.’ We really got into it! It’s a show that I love and am connected to, so I was really excited to personally be a part of the show and part of the music.”

The singer also explained that the new song represents a meaningful departure from his typical country catalog.

“‘All I Need Is You’ is a song that’s out of my normal country music box. It’s a song that hits close to home. I think a lot of people can relate to the need for Jesus. To write a song about something that really matters is extra special.”

Between a theatrical finale, an emotionally charged portrayal of Christ’s Passion, and new music inspired by the series, Season 6 appears designed to become more than simply another chapter of The Chosen. It aims to immerse audiences in one of history’s most profound stories while revealing the emotional journey experienced by the artists who brought it to the screen.
