One area that hasn’t seen much of Sheridan lately is the multiplex; he penned the films Hell or High Water, Wind River, and Sicario, but hasn’t graced the big screen in five years. That’s about to change, as his new actioner F.A.S.T. is racing into theaters next year. However, there’s a catch; belying its name, F.A.S.T. is slowing down a little.
F.A.S.T. was originally set to debut in the spring of 2027, but it’s now been moved back to the cusp of the summer blockbuster season, premiering on May 14. Right now, that spot on the release calendar is vacant; the rom-com The Catch, the belated horror sequel Paranormal Activity 8, and the animated musical Bad Fairies will premiere the subsequent week, on May 21, before the popcorn season begins in earnest with the hotly anticipated Star Wars: Starfighter on May 28.
What Is ‘F.A.S.T.’ About?
F.A.S.T. (which has no relation to the Fast and Furious franchise) stars Brandon Sklenar (The Housemaid) as a onetime Special Forces commando who finds himself at loose ends until he’s recruited by the DEA to take down a cabal of CIA-backed drug dealers. The film also stars Juliana Canfield (Succession), LaKeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah), Jason Clarke (Oppenheimer), and Sam Clafin (The Hunger Games). It will be helmed by Ben Richardson in his feature directorial debut; the cinematographer on films like Beasts of the Southern Wild and The Fault in Our Stars, Richardson is a frequent collaborator with Sheridan. He shot the Sheridan-directed Wind River and Those Who Wish Me Dead, and has directed a number of episodes of the Yellowstone prequel series 1883 and 1923. The script is by Sheridan, his first feature screenplay since 2021’s Those Who Wish Me Dead.
F.A.S.T. will be released in theaters by Warner Bros. on May 14, 2027. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
