BTS members RM, Jin, V, and Jimin are facing backlash online after an old livestream clip resurfaced, allegedly showing the four stars discussing the appearance and weight of rookie group CORTIS.

The clip, which was originally recorded during a livestream several months ago, has recently gone viral across social media, generating more than a million views and triggering an intense debate among fans and K-Pop followers.

In the resurfaced recording, the BTS members can be heard talking about CORTIS and complimenting the younger idols’ appearances. However, the conversation reportedly took an uncomfortable turn when Jimin mentioned that the rookie idols appeared to be thinner than he was.

The discussion then shifted toward the members’ own physiques when V and RM recalled how thin BTS members had been when they were younger. The conversation continued with the members joking and speculating about Jimin’s weight.

What drew the strongest criticism, however, was the moment when the members allegedly began discussing the weight of the CORTIS members.

At one point, V reportedly suggested that three of the younger idols might weigh “around 40kg.”

That particular comment quickly became the focus of the backlash.

As the clip spread across social media, many viewers accused the BTS members of being unnecessarily focused on the bodies and weight of younger idols. Critics argued that discussing the exact weight of teenage or young K-Pop performers in such a casual manner was inappropriate, particularly given the enormous influence BTS members have within the industry.

The resurfaced footage quickly accumulated more than one million views, with reactions becoming increasingly divided.

Some fans defended BTS, arguing that the viral clip may have been edited or taken out of context. They pointed out that viewers were only seeing a short portion of a much longer livestream and that the original conversation may have contained additional context that was removed from the circulating version.

Others, however, were far less forgiving.

Critics argued that even if the clip had been presented without its full context, discussing the body sizes and estimated weights of younger artists was still an uncomfortable subject. Some questioned why the members would speculate about the weight of their juniors in the first place.

The controversy has also reignited a broader discussion about the intense focus on weight and appearance within the K-Pop industry.

Idols are routinely subjected to scrutiny over their bodies, diets and physical appearance, while extremely low weights are sometimes treated as desirable standards. Because of that, many viewers felt that comments about whether another idol weighs 40kg or less could contribute to an already unhealthy culture surrounding body image.

At the same time, supporters of BTS have urged people not to immediately judge the members based on a short viral recording.

The controversy remains largely centered on the resurfaced footage itself, with no indication that the members intended to publicly target or insult CORTIS.

Still, the backlash shows just how quickly seemingly casual comments can become a major controversy when made by some of the biggest stars in the world.

For now, the debate continues between those who believe the clip has been taken out of context and those who believe the comments were inappropriate regardless of the circumstances.

And with the footage continuing to circulate online, RM, Jin, V and Jimin are now facing growing scrutiny over exactly what they said about their younger labelmates.
