PART 3: The Boardroom Raid
Six hours later, the storm had passed, leaving behind a cold, crisp sky over Manhattan.
Arthur Sterling was under heavy federal guard in the intensive care unit at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. The medical team had successfully flushed the high-potency paralytic toxin—a rare experimental compound manufactured exclusively by Sterling BioTech—out of his system. He was weak, but stable and fully conscious.
Meanwhile, federal agents and NYPD detectives had locked down the 50th floor of the Sterling BioTech headquarters on Wall Street.
Inside the glass-walled executive conference room, Victoria Sterling sat in handcuffs, flanked by two federal marshals. Her high-priced defense attorney sat beside her, whispering frantically, but Victoria stared blankly ahead at the mahogany conference table.
Julian walked into the room, accompanied by Lead Detective Robert Vance and a team of corporate forensic investigators.
In Julian’s hand was his father’s cell phone, recovered from the master bedroom of the Sterling estate, alongside a hard drive retrieved from Dr. Hale’s private office safe.
“The puzzle is complete, Victoria,” Detective Vance said flatly, tossing a stack of financial documents onto the center of the table. “Dr. Hale cracked under twenty minutes of interrogation. He gave up everything.”
Victoria didn’t flinch, keeping her mouth firmly shut.
“You knew Arthur was planning to restructure the company trust,” Julian said, his voice cold and steady as he looked down at his stepmother. “He realized you had been embezzling millions through offshore shell companies in the Caymans. He was going to cut you out of the estate entirely on Monday morning.”
Julian pressed a button on his phone, playing the unplayed voicemail his father had left him three nights ago. His father’s tired, regretful voice filled the quiet boardroom:
“Julian… it’s your father. I was wrong about you, son. I was wrong about a lot of things. Victoria… she isn’t who we thought she was. I found the transfers. She’s trying to destroy everything we built. Please… call me back as soon as you get this. I need you home.”
Julian turned off the screen. “You intercepted his medical care. You had Dr. Hale induce a coma using a synthetic neurotoxin that mimics brain death and stops heart monitors from detecting faint rhythms. You forged the death certificate, bribed the private funeral home to skip embalming under the guise of an ‘infectious disease quarantine,’ and planned to have him buried six feet under before the drugs wore off.”
Victoria slowly raised her head, a bitter, cold smile touching her lips. “He was going to ruin me, Julian. He was going to strip my name off the foundation, throw me into the street with nothing after fifteen years of playing his dutiful little wife!”
“He gave you everything,” Julian replied quietly. “And you tried to suffocate him in the dark.”
Detective Vance pulled Victoria up from her chair. “Victoria Sterling, you are under arrest for attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy, grand larceny, and corporate fraud. You have the right to remain silent…”
As the marshals led Victoria toward the private executive elevators, she passed Julian. She stopped for a brief second, looking into his eyes.
“You were supposed to be the screw-up,” she whispered, her voice filled with pure venom. “You were supposed to stay in London.”
Julian looked her dead in the eye. “My father raised me to know when something isn’t right. You should have checked the lock.”
