Taylor Sheridan is truly a one-man band.
Not only does he dream up, write, direct, and produce some of the biggest television series and films of the decade, he can also act. And because he has the final say in casting, he can — and has — looked no further than in the mirror when a role suited him.
Sheridan isn’t just a man with a big ego — he’s a lifelong fan of Westerns, a talented actor who started working long before he became the Taylor Sheridan, and someone who clearly enjoys playing himself when the script calls for it.

Here’s every time Taylor Sheridan has stepped in front of the camera:
Travis Wheatley on Yellowstone
Fans didn’t exactly cheer when Taylor Sheridan cast himself in his own hit show. In Yellowstone Season 5, he played Travis Wheatley, a horse trader who appeared in a dozen episodes across four seasons.
Many viewers took to social media to express their frustration, with one person calling it “his enormous ego overshadowing everything.” Others said the character was “pointless” and felt like Taylor was forcing his own presence into the story just to be Taylor Sheridan.
Cody Spears on Lioness
Cody Spears isn’t a cowboy — this is no cowboy show. Taylor Sheridan played the Delta Force team leader who previously worked with Zoe Saldaña’s character on a CIA mission in Mexico.
He first appeared in Season 2 and has already been featured in a Season 3 episode. The new season just launched this month, and more appearances are likely. The role has been one of Sheridan’s most recent and consistent self-cameos.

Charles Goodnight on 1883
Taylor Sheridan portrayed the real-life historical figure Charles Goodnight — the legendary rancher who invented the chuckwagon — in two back-to-back episodes of 1883.
He played a hero who helped Sam Elliott’s Shea and LaMonica Garrett’s Thomas fight off bandits. It was a small but impactful role in the prequel series.
Unnamed Cowboy in Hell or High Water
You may have to squint to tell, but yes — that’s Taylor Sheridan on the back of that horse.
In the 2016 Western Hell or High Water, he played a minor cowboy trying to move his herd when a wildfire blocks the path. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, and Sheridan’s cameo was so small he didn’t even get a name. But it’s still him on screen.
Is Taylor Sheridan Working on Any New Shows Right Now?
The real question is: When is he not?
Sheridan is currently executive producing the new comedy series Frisco King, a spinoff of Tulsa King starring Samuel L. Jackson as the main draw. A new action thriller called F.A.S.T. starring Brandon Sklenar is also in postproduction.

Both projects are expected to drop in 2027, and fans can already be certain that Taylor Sheridan will likely make another one of his signature cameos.
Taylor Sheridan has become one of the most successful and prolific creators in television. But when it comes to playing himself, he has no need to look beyond the mirror. Whether it’s a horse trader on Yellowstone, a Delta Force operative in Lioness, a historical rancher in 1883, or a background cowboy in Hell or High Water, Sheridan has proven that he’s happy to star in his own stories.
And in a career full of massive hits, one thing is certain: when Taylor Sheridan decides to step in front of the camera, he always casts the lead role for himself.
